Happen to chance upon a Japanese TV program talking about Singapore education system. Just for your info, the program is 金曜プレミアム・坂上忍と大激論！ニッポンの危機 もう他人事ではない！あなたの生活を崩壊させる！？教育危機”. If you’re interested, you may find some snippets online.
Anyway, back to the topic. Please do not take this seriously as all opinions are personal, and I do not mean any harm. I can be quite direct in this post, but please do not curse/swear/rant at me.
Personally, I have went through the “Normal Academic”system, the JC 3 month period, polytechnic and then private University. All I want to say is that PSLE DOES NOT determine your future. I do understand that there are parents who still have the mindset of ITE = It’s the End, but it is so not true. I have a few normal technical friends who went to better University than me. And I feel that Singapore education is pretty fine as it is, in a sense that it prepares the younger generation for the future, except for the “strawberry generation” thingy. I do know that at the very least, my generation can still cope with whatever stress there is.
Whereas for the education in Japan, it prepares the students at a later stage, which I think could be too late, especially when it is much easier for kids to learn at a young age. Moreover, I feel that the younger generation in Japan are not very good in expressing themselves, hence falling into depression.
Which is why, I hate to say this, but I have to disagree with what the Japanese programme have said.
Well, that’s about it. Just a random musing.
I guess I may want to send my future child to Singapore for his/her education. LOL!
