Recently, I went for Design Festa 49, and I was totally in awe by not only the size of the event, but also by the crowd and of course the items exhibited.
I only went for one day as I was still feeling very tired from my trip in SG/BKK. So, let me share my experience with you, and if you’re interested, you might even want to come to this event during your travel! (P.S. This might be a wordy post as I do not have much pictures from the event)
I won’t say that I was the earliest, but thankfully I pre-purchased my tickets over at the convenience store, I do not need to queue at the normal queue, which was very long. Still, the queue for the pre-purchase ticket holders were also long. I managed to get in after queuing for about 20 mins before the door officially opens.
The long queue before heading inside the event hall.
The event is split into 2 levels, Level 1 & Level 4.
So, before the event, I did take note of which shops I would want to visit, but I ended up visiting most of the accessory shops. Most of the designs look pretty much the same, but there are booths with really unique designs.
Some shop owners also do talk alot, like explaining how they came up with these creations. One of them was talking about how she was being left to look after the booth, while her friends are somewhere else, so she decided to talk non-stop to keep herself from feeling bored. I was taken aback by that.
As for my purchases for the day, you can take a look at my Youtube Video below!
The design was really cute and the artist was more than welcome to have people take photos of it!
Some fashion show going on at the main stage.
Some booth owners are really nice when I asked to take photos of their products since bestie couldn’t be there for the event. The booth owners were like “Oh! Do feel free to take any picture you like!”
Overall, I really enjoyed myself at the event alone, even though I was walking non-stop for 5 hours without any rest. I also skipped lunch out because I knew that most food places will be crowded. I only had a bottle of water to keep myself hydrated during the event.
Here are some tips for those who are interested in going for the event!
- Best to get pre-tickets right before the event
- Check out the booths through Design Festa’s twitter to see which booths will be exhibiting, and print out the map once it is available.
- If the booth you want to visit is very popular, mark it down and head to it right away.
- Prepare loads of cash preferably with smaller notes and coins (Try not to give 10,000 yen note)
I hope these tips are helpful!
The next upcoming Design Festa event for this year will be Design Festa Summer on August 3 & 4, and Design Festa 50 on November 16 & 17.
