I know this post is pretty late but better than never!
Anyway, for this year’s Reunion Dinner, me and family went over to Wan He Lou. It was much thanks to my 2nd sister in law for helping to choose and make the reservations while I was away holidaying in Japan. It used to be me who decides where to eat for Reunion Dinner (my family stopped cooking reunion dinner because it was a hassle, and plus there were only 6 of us, so my parents think that it is more convenient that we all went out to eat instead), but now I’m passing the baton to my 2nd sister in law.
Anyway, here’s my review on Wan He Lou’s Reunion Dinner!
What I have heard from my sister in law is that the menu will not be released until like 2 weeks before reunion dinner period itself, so if you really want to eat Reunion Dinner there, you will need to put a deposit even before knowing what you will be getting. At first, I thought it was pretty weird, because most restaurants would have put up their menu first before taking in reservations. But for Wan He Lou, it is quite the exact opposite.
Here’s the list of food that we had for that day, and it was the menu for 6 pax.
- Smooth Sailing – Abalone “Lo Hei”
- Soaring Ambitions – Braised Sharks fin with Conpoy
- Unending Prosperity – Signature Lobster (Half each)
- Instantly Wealthy – Slow Braised “Dong Po” Duck with Chestnuts
- Happiness – Green Dragon Vegetable with Shiitake Mushroom & Fish mouth
- A Wealthy & Healthy Life – Multigrain Rice with Fish Roe
- Joyous Laughter – Exquisite Chef Selection Dessert
Overall, I love the food especially the Multigrain rice with Fish Roe. If you ask me why, I would say that it is not very common in Singapore, plus the rice is not hard, and easy to digest. The lobster was nice, but probably I’m not someone who likes to eat crab or lobster, I think I would prefer something simpler.
The desserts were pretty interesting too! Usually they would serve mango sago, or some common desserts, but they serve some type of pastry and inside is filled with red bean filling, which made it pretty nice~
My verdict of Wan He Lou is…….
4 / 5
Would definitely recommend there. Plus, I heard from my 2nd sister in law that their lobster porridge is pretty good. Am hoping to be able to eat their lobster porridge soon!
