Actually, I had this planned a month ago, right after my Krabi trip, coz I needed a short break somewhere before I head to the Holy Lands of Japan in end December.
Plus, with all the recent heavy workload, the more I need to give myself a breather away from work! To be honest, this trip was so close to being cancelled, because I was being called back for work, and in the end, my bosses were sort of being “reprimanded” for letting me go on leave while the big boss is still in Singapore, hence for my future travel trips to anywhere while he is in Singapore, I need to seek prior approval first….
Anyway, back to the topic before I digress much further, one word to sum up my stay in Montigo Resort, “AWESOME”. Despite the exorbitant prices, the price paid was definitely worth it, excluding the mosquitoes. To go to Montigo Resort, it is best that you take a ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, coz it is very near, and Montigo Resorts do provide ferry transfers to and fro Nongsapura Ferry Terminal. FYI, a two-way ticket from Tanah Merry Ferry Terminal to Nongsapura Ferry Terminal costs about $46 per pax by BatamFast. The ferry ride takes about 45 mins to 1 hour, depending on how fast the driver drives.
Once you past through the immigration, there will be people from Montigo Resorts who will be sending you to the Resort. The bus ride takes like less than 10 mins, and once you reach there, you’ll be greeted by their staffs who will serve you a wet towel and a refreshing drink! They even help you to process your check-in, and you have to do is to sit back and relax.
So while waiting over there, I decided to do some cam-whore!
It is also pretty hazy in Batam, so I didn’t really have nice pictures of the scenery….
Anyway, when I reached, it was still early for check-in, so I decided to head for their Spa, which was highly raved for!
FYI, you can get to enjoy 10% if you email to them in-advance to book your spa and massages. And yours truly managed to get that 10%! I chose Montigo Massage as the Montigo Sensory Magic room was sort of being renovated. Before the massage, they will use salt (blue color) to scrub your feet, and then use lime to sort of disinfect the germs, and then you’re off to your massage! For ladies, do no need to worry, coz all the masseurs there are ladies and they are good. They kept asking me if their strength was too strong for me. I chose the 60 min course as I wanted to head out to Nagoya Hills right after that. The 60 mins ended pretty quickly, and it costed me about 600,000rupiah (excluding the tax and service charge). After the massage, they will bring you to this room to have tea and cookies to enjoy right after your massage.
I’m not sure what tea is that, but the bottle on the bottom right is honey, and you can actually add it to your tea! Well, I added some, but…..it still tastes the same. Hahahaha!!
After that, my and friend headed over to Nagoya Hills to do some お土産 (omiyage a.k.a souvenir) shopping for my colleagues, and also to fill my hungry stomach! You can actually grab a taxi from the Concierge to any places around Batam. The taxi ride (to and fro) to Nagoya Hills from Montigo Resorts costs 400,000 rupiah (SGD40), and the taxi drivers are more than willing to wait for you to finish your errands and then drive you back. The distance from Montigo Resorts to Nagoya Hills is pretty far, and it takes about 40 mins to 1 hour depending on the traffic in Nagoya Hills.
On the way there, I saw students walking a long distance back home. I was like o_O;. Because in Singapore. students will take buses or trains instead of walk home no matter how near it is (working adults like me also feel lazy to walk home sometimes). Sometimes, I do think these students had it hard.
Finally reached Nagoya Hill after like 45 mins to 1 hour of ride. The taxi driver said some things like “ini” (“here” in Malay), then “umpat” (“four” in Malay), and I somehow can understand abit. Thank goodness I learn abit of Melayu back in Secondary School during my CCA, and from my colleagues who taught me this super funny phrase of “Makan, Berak” (Eat and shit in Melayu). Once we reached, we headed off to find the Thousand Layer Cake which my colleague had requested me to find, and I managed to find them at the 2nd level of the shopping centre. It has alot of stalls selling alot of food like Belinjal, Keropok (Prawn Crackers), Thousand Layer Cake and many other snacks. If I’m not wrong, the highly raved Thousand Layer Cake was “Layers”. The packaging is purple, and you can find it at the 2nd level of Nagoya Hills near the Food Street. After buying what I needed, I went straight for A&W, telling my friend that I was WAY TOO HUNGRY!
It has been like 3 or 4 months since I lasy ate A&W, and the chilli was awesome!!! I had the Spicy Aroma set, while my friend had this Mango pocket set thingy. My friend hate the root beer, so he opted for ice lemon tea. Food was of course cheap there! FYI, we had this around 3. After finishing, we walked around the mall, and it was boring that I suggested to go to supermart instead. I’m not sure why, but the whole ground level reeks of oil smell. Managed to get some IndoMie, and of course ABC chilli sauces while I’m there coz it way to cheap, and the chilli sauces there are in small bottles!
After buying what I needed, me and my friend realized that we had like more than half an hour before the driver picks us up, so we decided to head out to see, but then the traffic there was bad, and we were not sure where to go, we decided to head back inside the mall to wait instead.
The driver came at 4:30p.m, but we didn’t see him at all! And we thought the driver didn’t came to pick us up, but luckliy this security guard came to ask us if we were from Montigo Resorts. Initially I thought he wanted to ask if we needed taxis back, then I just told him no, but then after turning back to see another guy behind him said something about Montigo Resort, I went up to the guy and told him I was waiting for the cab back to Montigo Resort! Thank goodness, he turned out to be the one waiting for us, coz we can only remember that he had this green ribbon ketupat hanging on his car.
Took the car back, and slept for a while on the car ride back. Managed to get some snooze since it was a long journey back. After reaching, we paid the taxi driver. FYI, if you’re taking taxi to and fro, you can pay them when you reach your final destination.
After reaching the resort, we took a buggy ride to our villa. Sadly, I have no pictures of the villa….. Anyway, after putting down our stuff, we decided to head out for dinner! My friend researched online before we departed for Batam, and we requested the Concierge to help us get a taxi to our dinner place, which was ‘Rezeki Restaurant’. This place is highly raved online, and I also heard that the food there was local, and price wise, definitely affordable to your pockets!
Took a cab down, and it costed 150,000 rupiah for a two-way trip. The ride was about 15 mins or so away from Montigo Resort. I didn’t managed to take a picture of the gate, because I was still inside the car.
We reached pretty early, like around 6, and the driver told us that he wait for us once we are done. Felt super paiseh, coz people have to wait for us to finish. I felt super bad….
Another cam-whore at Rezeki Restaurant.
As usual, it was hazy….
And we ordered these!!
There was seafood fried rice, sambal petai, sambal kangkong, steamed flower crab, butter crayfish. Super awesome!!!
And because, I wanted more, I decided to add this on!
SAMBAL LALA (CLAMS). I was telling the staff this “Sekit Pedas” (which means little chilli in Melayu). I actually overheard this from another table, so smarty-pants me, decided to do it too lah! Hahaha! The clams were a lil disappointing though…. And guess what, we even got a dessert and some chips (we didn’t touch it in the end), and my friend almost spitted out the dessert, coz he says that it has a funny taste, while I ate it as per normal. Probably my friend isn’t used to eating these type of food. I would definitely love to come back here with a bigger group of friends to much on these seafood!
After dinner, we took the cab back, and then ‘officially’ check into our villa! We booked the hill villa, and it was really big. They say it could accomodate up to 4 pax, but it can fit more than 4 lah. The first level had a mini kitchen, but we didn’t use it. And it had a small pool, which I also didn’t use up in the end. While waiting for the spa people to come and prepare my bath, my friend found some mosquitoes, and we called for the housekeeping to get rid of them. While waiting, I saw another insect that looks like a cockroach on the curtain, where I totally freaked out! I had to call twice before the housekeeping people came, and they came pretty fast right after the 2nd call. Inside the villa, there are Wii gamesets for you to play, but because I wanted to enjoy my spa, I decided not to play Wii. The spa people came earlier, and I sort of did an advance booking for a spa which comes with a 10% off too! I chose ‘Romantic Milk Spa’ which comes with a bottle of champagne.
Pretty right?! They took about 30 mins to set this up, and it was really awesome!! They even used ‘Greenfields’ milk in this bath!
This was the champagne that they provided. This costed about 600,000 rupiah, and I find it pretty good except for the champagne. It tasted more like white wine than champagne to me…. And I only had a glass because I prefer champagne than wine, and before I drank this (right after my spa), I had another alcholic drink at the Tiigo bar.
I took an hour for the bath, while my friend waited for me. Felt so embarrassed. After the bath, we headed to Tiigo Bar, which was like less than 2 mins walk from our villa, but because I was scared of ghosts and it was really pitch dark, I requested for the buggy service. So sua ku right?
They had a buffet dinner there, but we didn’t opt for it as we wanted to try local seafood instead. The DJ was pretty good, playing some awesome music for the night!
I ordered the ‘Sunshine on Sunset’ coz it sounds nice! Wanted to try Hazelnut Colada, but am afraid that it would be too sweet.
My ‘Sunshine on Sunset’! Looks normal, but the it has an orangey taste to it.
After one drink, we headed back to rest, coz I was feeling super tired.
But!!! I couldn’t sleep through the night, coz there were insect sounds, and I’m afraid of ghosts….
The next day, only having slept like 3 hours or so, with on-off waking up because I put my iPod songs on a loop, I felt super horrible, and I woke up like 6am in the morning. Started my day watching whatever anime that I have yet to watch on my iPhone, and managed to watch it till 7.10am before the electric supply went out. While the electric supply was out, we headed out for breakfast, and thank goodness the place to have breakfast was near too!
Still looking as hazy as usual….
My breakfast for the day. I had a bowl of chicken porridge and a yogurt to go along (excluded out). I wanted to try others, but my tummy was full, and I couldn’t eat much further. So we went back, and rest for a while, while my friend had the Refreshing bath in the morning, and I continued to watch my anime until I dozed off. I could even remembered that I was watching ‘Dragonball’, and it was a lil wee bit boring that I stopped and fell asleep.
We checked out from the villa around 10:40am, as our ferry ride back to Singapore was at 12:00, and the bus transfer to Nongsapura Ferry Terminal was at 11:00a.m.
FYI, once you reach the terminal, do remember to head to BatamFast counter to get this barcode sticker because silly me did not do so, and my friend also blur blur (even though I told him to let other people go first) went out of the queue to wait for me, so we ended up re-queueing from the back.
So, that pretty sums up my virgin trip to Batam. Whether I will go back to there is another question, coz the ride was very choppy at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, and I was feeling very dizzy. The ride at Nongsapura was so much better. But definitely, I would want to stay at Montigo Resorts again, and of coz eat at Rezeki Restaurant!
